The World Photography Organisation (WPO) has announced the shortlist for the worlds largest photography programme, the 2013 Sony World Photography Awards. This year has seen the highest number of entries in the awards’ six year history with over 100,000 images submitted from over 170 countries.

By bringing together the world’s best emerging and established photography talents, the shortlist offers an original, visual insight into 2012. The topics covered include the Syrian conflict, the American presidential campaign and the London Olympics.

To view the entries by all the shortlisted photographers, visit the Sony World Photoraphy Awards Exhibition at Somerset House, London from the 26th April to the 12th May. The photographs will also be published in the 2013 World Photography Awards book.

The Open and Youth category winners will be announced on the 19th of March and the Professional category winners and the coveted L’Iris D’Or / Sony World Photography Awards Photographer of the Year title will be announced at a gala ceremony in London on the 25th of April.
