‘I see no reason to not make a self-portrait each day,’ the photographer says. ‘I’m always around and always free. It’s kind of like going to the gym – it flexes your muscles and keeps you in shape.’
Jeff Harris has taken a self-portrait everyday for the past twelve years – that’s 4,748 self-portraits and counting.
When I first came across the video, produced for Time Magazine lightbox, I assumed it was merely like the famous viral Noah takes a photo of himself everyday for six years, and similar projects, but it’s far more impressive. ‘I didn’t want 365 images of me sitting on the couch each day’, said Harris to Time Magazine.
The photos, taken by Harris with an Olympic Stylus 35mm film camera (he’s gone through six), document his battle with cancer, encounters with celebrities (he has them take his portrait), highs and lows – a life well lived.
